About The Firm

Carter Legal, PLLC was founded by John K. Carter, Esq., following his successful leadership and eventual sale in 2022 of a prior law firm he established in 2015.

After continuing with that firm for 3 years, John launched Carter Legal to refocus on Business Law, Estate Planning, Probate, and Mediation — providing clients with accessible, experienced guidance and long-term peace of mind.

John has held prominent roles as Chairman, President, and CEO of a $50 billion asset management company overseeing more than 120 mutual funds and 35 investment sub-advisers. His legal and executive experience spans Skadden Arps, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and major financial institutions, including Franklin Templeton, Citigroup, and Transamerica.

He is licensed to practice law in Florida, the District of Columbia, and Virginia, and holds degrees from the University of Virginia School of Law and a Master of Theology from Saint Leo University.
